Not My Will, But Yours Be Done
Jesus faced the most difficult struggle of His life, but He maintained the mindset to yield His will to the Father’s will for His life. Jesus was about to undergo the most painful and horrible death ever known, He would be crucified on a cross. He would even be forsaken by the Father as He took on sin and death for us all. Yet, He did not allow fear or doubt to overwhelm Him to despair. Jesus fell to His knees and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42 NIV)
In prayer Jesus put His human desires in check. We should look deeply at the example Jesus left us and be confident about praying to God. We can pour our hearts out to our Father and be honest, even when our human desires are contrary and sometimes in conflict with His. We can all be like Jesus by remaining humble and submitting all of our concerns into the secure hands of our Heavenly Father. We can trust that God is for us and will help us through whatever trials come our way.
NOT MY WILL is designed to remind us to have the mind of Christ in everything we do. Our every response to the Father should always be, not my will, but yours be done.
